This page explains what happens to your data when you visit pragmaticsysadmin.help or interact with me by email, chat, or newsletter. I aim to be plain about it — no buried clauses, no surprise trackers. If anything here is unclear, the chat widget in the bottom-right corner is the fastest way to ask.

What I collect and why

1. Analytics (anonymous)

This site uses Google Analytics 4 (via Google Tag Manager) to understand which articles are read and where visitors come from. GA4 receives:

Google sets cookies (_ga, _ga_<id>) on your browser for this. IPs are truncated by Google before storage. I do not link analytics data to your name or email.

To opt out: install a content blocker (uBlock Origin, Privacy Badger), use a browser with third-party cookie blocking (Firefox, Safari, Brave), or visit Google’s Ads Settings to manage Google-wide opt-outs.

2. The chat widget (Formspree)

When you submit the “Ask Jonne” chat form, your email address and message are sent to Formspree (formspree.io), which forwards them to my inbox so I can reply. I keep the email until your question is resolved, then delete it on request. Formspree retains delivery logs for up to 30 days for spam/abuse protection, per their own policy.

3. The newsletter (Buttondown)

When you subscribe via the newsletter form, your email address is sent to Buttondown (buttondown.com), which stores it and sends you emails on my behalf. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in every email, or by emailing me through the chat widget. Buttondown’s privacy policy is at buttondown.com/privacy.

4. The shop (Ko-fi)

When you buy a toolkit or tip via Ko-fi (ko-fi.com), Ko-fi processes your payment and collects the information needed to fulfil the order (email, payment details). I never see your full card number — Ko-fi handles that. I receive your email address and the name of the product you bought, so I can email you the download link or updates.

Some links on the Resources page are affiliate links. If you click one and buy, I earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. The vendor (e.g. DigitalOcean) may set a cookie on your browser to track that you came from my site. I do not control these cookies; check the vendor’s privacy policy for details.

6. Theme preference

When you click the sun/moon toggle in the header, your choice (light or dark) is saved in your browser’s localStorage under the key pref-theme. This never leaves your device.

7. Comments, contact forms, and social

There is no comments system on this site and no embedded social widgets. The only ways to contact me are the chat widget, the newsletter, or the social links (if/when they exist in the header).

What I do NOT do

Your rights (GDPR / EU / UK)

If you are in the EU, the UK, or any jurisdiction with similar data-protection law, you have the right to:

To exercise any of these, contact me via the chat widget (bottom-right) or by replying to any newsletter email. I’ll respond within 30 days, usually much faster.

Children’s privacy

The Kids section has simple browser games. I do not collect any personal data from children. The games do not require login, do not save progress to a server, and do not contain tracking. If you believe a child has shared personal data with me, contact me and I will delete it immediately.

Data retention

Changes to this policy

If I add a new tracker, tool, or data processor, I’ll update this page and bump the “last updated” date at the top. I won’t make retroactive changes that affect data I’ve already collected without telling you.

Contact

The fastest way to reach me is the 💬 Ask Jonne button in the bottom-right corner of any page. If email is easier, reply to any newsletter issue and it’ll come straight to my inbox.
